Drawing a face: A good chalenge
Even for a professional painter, drawing a face can be difficult. It is very hard to capture details and proportions of a face. You must study and learn the different techniques in order to draw a human face. Every artist may input their styles and techniques but you must know well the fundamental skills needed in drawing a face. A face of a person consists of different and complex details and it varies from each person. Different techniques on how to draw a face will be discussed in this article.
Drawing a face: First step
You must first learn how to draw the face outline. Every face comes with different shapes. It can be an oval, round or square face. However, the common human face shape is oval so you must know how to draw an oval-shaped face. Draw one horizontal line and then one vertical line which intersect at 90 degree. These lines will be your guide on drawing the different face parts and their exact positions. The horizontal line should have the eyes position and the vertical line is the nose. After positioning the eyes and the nose, separate the vertical line into three equal parts. The topmost segment will be the starting point of the hair line and the bottom of the first segment will be the eyebrows. The bottom of the second segment will be the end of the nose and the last segment will be from the bottom of the nose up to the bottom of the chin. After you finish doing it, you will now have the frame of the face.
Drawing a face: A few steps
The next step is drawing the face details. Draw two almond shapes on the first horizontal line that you drew before. These will be the eyes. Remember that the space between the two eyes will be equal to an eye length.
Next, draw the nose on the second segment of the vertical line. The nose should be narrow at the upper part near the eye space and must be broad at the nostrils.
The ears should be drawn on the sides of the face. Unlike the nose, the ears must be broad at the top and narrow on the bottom. The ears must be detailed and filled with complex lines.
The mouth should be drawn in the middle of the last segment. The mouth’s edge must be align with the center of the eye’s separation. The human’s face will be more expressive if mouth is added.
Draw the hair by covering most of the parts of the topmost segment. The hair strands downward.
You cannot make a good drawing a human face when you just do it the first time, unless you are really good and talented. You must practice many times to perfectly draw a human face. With enough practice and experience, drawing a face will be effortless.
